Spore is a multi-genre "massively single-player online game" developed by Maxis and designed by Will Wright. It allows a player to control the evolution of a species from its beginnings as a unicellular organism, through development as an intelligent and social creature, to interstellar exploration as a spacefaring culture. Wow...this game was like a fad at Dibbz.

But I remember...walking into Dibbz...and instead of yelling and occasional profamity, there was laugher...and smiling faces! (It was actually a little scary.)

Of course, a few weeks later, it was back to WoW, DoTA, and Counterstrike. lol

It's not really an evolution game when you get right down to it. You're supposed to select for features that increase your chances to eat, do the gross, and otherwise survive, however, you're not forced to as is evidenced by my Penis & Balls monster that has no legs and just hops around. But you can actually try to emulate an evolutionary process if you take the game seriously.

Basically, I don't think the game was ever intended as an evolution vs creationism debate catalyst. It's just a fun game that lets you bend the rules of reality and escape the mundane.

I heard an interesting perspective about this game on the issue of evolution vs. intelligent design.

The player (acting as god, it's a god game) creates the characters and controls their evolution. If the game were against intelligent design it would randomly create and evolve the characters and the player would do nothing but sit back and watch.

Not saying it supports one view over the other but an interesting way to look at it.
